One of my favorite memories of Old Daytona (1980s) was driving into town as a tourist, and seeing the Krispy Kreme neon thru heavy fog early in the morning. “Hot doughnuts now” — what a great welcome. I know many people, especially city planners, regard neon as cheap and tawdry. But I think it’s a necessary ingredient for a lively tourist strip.
