Obligatory Bike Week Post…Kinda

Yep, it’s Bike Week in Daytona Beach.  I’ll tell you what, I never feel safer than during Bike Week ’cause that’s when the town is full of doctors and lawyers from “up north” (who have packed on 100 lbs., pulled out a few teeth, and climbed into their Ford 350s to haul their Harley-Davidson Fat Boys down to the festivities).  Along with, of course, the Sports Illustrated swim suit edition models who jet in to participate in the cole slaw wrestling at the Cabbage Patch. Now everyone repeat after me: Bike Week’s a good thing…it’s a good thing…it’s a good thing…

So, no segue required, let’s take a peaceful moment to remember one of the area’s great ones: the late Harold Newton, the first – and best – of the Florida Highwayman artists and occasional Daytona Beach resident:

Harold Newton oil on masonite, late 1980s.
