A Beach Street Landmark

The Halifax Historical Museum building at 252 South Beach Street was constructed in 1910 as home to Daytona Beach’s very first bank (Merchants Bank). It was sold in 1936 to Florida Bank and Trust and then purchased by the Historical Society in 1984.  (Photo taken 12/26/11)

The era of opulent bank buildings seems over but at least this beauty survives, unlike the grand old bank my folks used – First National of East Chicago – which suffered a much crueler fate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6uDvNZRhtk
